Zuriick

Have you heard of the shoe Zuriick? NO! Well let me just tell you.... these shoes are pretty much changing my life! They were brought to my attention by a friend of mine (Michael Jasper), and I really liked them but didn't research them until he forced me to last night! :) At first glance one might overlook this fabulous shoe, my mom even called it a rip off or a generic Van, but look closer and you'll see the difference. Zuriick has a wider variety of shoes. Sure they have the classic slip-ons, and lace ups BUT they have their Shug Low Carbon (Canvas) shoes that are what made me fall head over heels in love!
I also really like their kettle mid, more specifically midnight, and their Beatas. Even though their lace ups and slip-ons have a slight resemblance to Vans, they are different. Zuriicks slip-ons have colored soles, which is a big bonus! My favorites are the yellow with white sole. They also are cut differently. That's for the guys! When it comes to girls, I don't think they have that great of a selection but I won't hold that against them, because if I did come across a pair of Zuriicks girl shoes that I liked I couldn't afford them anyway. Their prices range from $65-$117! Yeah right! But for now I will just admire them and tell all my guy friends to buy a pair of these amazing shoes! :)

Music, Fashion, & Photography All Rolled Up In One...

Music: I promised myself I would never write about music. I am way to selfish when it comes to my favorite artists, but I'm breaking my promise to myself because my recent findings are too good to be kept under wraps. Let's start with St. Vincent.
Annie Clark, who goes by St. Vincent, is a musical genius. Her songs are everything except ordinary, but she pulls it off. I recently bought her song Strangers, and even though I love it, I wish I would have bought her song Marry Me as well. If you have never heard of her pull up a new tab on your Internet and search her on YouTube. She will blow your mind!
Dirty Projectors is a band that I stumbled upon on a blog I check regularly. I fell in love with their song Two Doves. It's one of those songs that melts your heart. It's not an up beat song but a song that you can drift off to sleep listening to! So good...
The last lovely Lady I will tell you about is Zooey Deschanel. Most of you probably already know who she is and that she has an amazing voice. I now have both of her albums with M. Ward, and her song Sugar Town from 500 Days of Summer. She is the cutest/most adorable person ever! She has a unique voice that is absolutely gorgeous.

Fashion: First let me say that Harper's Bazaar has declared that curves are back! Designers, like Louis Vuitton, have gotten rid of boy figured models and traded them in for curvier models. Seems the fashion industry has come a long way since back in the Fall of '09 when they declared anyone over a size was plus size. We all know this fad won't stick aorund for long, but it still is something to get excited over.
Another subject I wanted to touch on was the "tomboy" style. Let me just say, I am all for baseball t's and vans! I have jeans with a hole in the knee, and bum around in t-shirts all the time. Keyword there is bum. I strongly believe that girls can own baseball t's and sneakers, but they aren't for all the time. Recently someone was asking me about being a tomboy, because her daughter REFUSES to wear dresses, skirts, ballet flats, etc. I used to be the same exact way. For whatever reason I thought looking like a dude was awesome! I then grew up and realized that for many years, I went through some very rough phases. I look back on pictures and ask my mom why she didn't refuse to let me out of the house in the clothes I wore. I guess some people just have to learn for themselves. Anyway, as I was saying I totally think that girls can own t-shirts and keds, or vans, or whatever, BUT they are not for eveyday. I have grown to love skirts, and I practically wear ballet flats everyday of my life, but that doesn't mean you have to dress them up, you can dress them down. You can also wear jeans! I wear jeans practically everyday! You just have to wear them right and with the right top. Here's some examples:

Photography: So I've been taking lots of pictures lately. I started a 365 photography project where I take at least one picture everyday for a year! So far it's been going great... I'm a little behind but I've been busy. Here are some of the best shots so far! Enjoy and I'm off to bed.

Joyeux Anniversaire

Today is my birthday, and I am officially old.  The picture above is a photo shoot I took of my sister and friend, Rudy, for my birthday invitations for Saturday. It's been a pretty good day, and it has made me realized just how amazing my friends and family are. Today I helped make my "Happy Birthday" banner. It is really adorable, my mom is a genius and decided to put her own twist on all those cute birthday banners out there. We will post pictures soon! :) For my birthday dinner I decided I would cook. I killed two birds with one stone; I made dinner for the night and it was my final for Home Economics. For an appetizer I made a traditional salad, and cooked brie cheese with apples and honey. My guests spread the brie, apples, and honey mixture on top of french bread. It was pretty delicious, if I do say so myself. For the main course we had rosemary chicken, baked, red potatoes flavored with lemon, and asparagus topped with Parmesan cheese and lemon zest! I went back and forth on what I should make for dessert, I didn't want cake and I didn't want to do the oh-so-easy cookies. I first decided on Sprinkle Bakes blue velvet cupcakes.
Then I decided against it and thought about running with the lemon theme and making lemon bars. Then I realized it was too much work when I had a short amount of time to make a three course meal. I finally decided upon peach cobbler. I accidentally used all-purpose flour, instead of self rising flour. It still tasted good, but I felt like a moron! Overall, I feel like tonight went pretty well, and am quite proud of the dinner I made!
On a completely different note, I realised I never told you guys about my new house! It is about the cutest little thing ever! It is a 1922 yellow Bungalow with a white picket fence. My mom had our old house decorated very modern, but now that we live in an old house she had to switch up her style. Our house in now very vintage, and you can find my mom at antique stores pretty much any day of the week. We have found some really cool stuff, for really good deals. Our house is full of little things that make a big impact. I truly believe that when it comes to home decor that the little things in a house that might go unnoticed are the things that make your house what it is. Whether it's flowers on a table, or an antique sail boat, they give your house a feel. Below are pictures I've taken of our new house! Enjoy :)
water fight in our front yard!

My mom took my sisters old dresser and turned it into a buffet. It's in our dining nook and looks adorable. She puts all her cakes on there as well as fresh flowers. The bird cage is what holds our bird salt and pepper shakers. Above the buffet is shelves that hold family photos. Definitely one of my favorite elements of the house.

The garden my mom just planted in our front yard. This photo doesn't do it justice.

I did a photo shoot with my brother around the house yesterday. This picture was take in our front/side yard.

My brother reading one of our antique finds A Buisness Man's Encyclopedia on our chair and 1/2 underneath our 1962 world map. Another one of my favorite items which we found it for $1!

Jake on our comfy, chocolate couch in front of our super cute shelves filled with more vintage finds.

Emma and Jake playing in the front yard.

Our "super adorable shelves" close-up! There are about twelve decorated shelves so far and I love them.

Well that's all for now! Time to go to bed. I will post more pictures soon! :)
G'night,

Men's Fashion

I was recently asked why I don't write about men's fashion. I replied with, "good question!". So this is my first blog on men's fashion. I feel like I don't know a ton about guy's clothes so no judging, but here it goes!

Just like women, different men can pull off different things. They all have different styles, so their likes vary but there are some things I believe all men can pull off; one of those things would be Vans. Vans are a classic shoe that I think anyone can wear, well unless you were goth but I don't really view that way of dressing as fashion. Everyone from preps to indie hipsters wear Vans! It's a universal shoe that has several styles. My favorite style of Vans is the classic lace ups. I want a pair in every color! I think they look good, and when it comes to guys, Vans are a shoe they can wear with almost any outfit.

Another article of clothing I wish more men/boys would wear is the beloved cardigan! I pretty much have a sick obsession with cardigans! I think that cardigans are a classic piece of clothing that gives a nice, clean, but "stylish" (if that's the right word) look to any guys outfit. I only wish that they were less expensive. Girls can find some cheap caridgans, even though they usually aren't good quality. For guys it's harder to find cheap cardigans. Some of my favorite cardigans are sold at American Apparel (www.americanapparel.net) and Urban Outfitters (urbanoutfitters.com) . They are soft, better quality, and come in amazing colors, but super expensive. Not only do I love solid cardigans, but I also really liked the striped ones, either thick or thin strips.

One article of clothing I believe only certain people can pull off are skinny jeans. What can I say? They just aren't for everyone. They just look awkward on some people.

No offense to anyone, but I really hate when guys wear Fox Riders Co., SRH, Famous, and No Fear. Maybe it's because I really hate bro's but I just can't stand seeing guys in those brands. The only one that I would budge on is Fox, but only if the guy was a real motocross rider. Like legit! :)

Anyway there's a quick run through of some of my likes and dislikes. I'm going to start writing about and incorporating more men's fashion but for now I'm posting pictures below of some of my favorite male outfits/men who I think dress "snazzy"!

Cadence

Let Down

So, once again I have taken a break from writing. It's not that I'm no longer interested or up-to-date on fashion it's that not only have I been running around the city like a mad lady, but also Vogue has been letting me down. Month after month, since 2010, Vogue has been dropped off in my mail box. Each month I get excited and tear it out of it's plastic wrapping only to find that there is nothing in the issue that sparks my interest. Then I throw it in my collection with my head down in shame..... Okay maybe a little dramatic, but seriously. Vogue is known as the fashion bible! It has one of the pickiest, rudest, craziest, most talented people for their editor; Anna Wintour, so I don't know what's happening. Not only does American Vogue have Anna but they have Grace Coddington, Vogue's Creative Director! Grace is crazy talented! She has thrown together some of the most beautiful photo shoots I have ever seen. She is super creative, and loves what she does! So I don't understand how Vogue has turned into something that let's me down month after month.
For example when I received my February issue of Vogue, me and a friend discussed their main headline: "Love, Sex, and What to Wear." That is not a headline of a fashion magazine, but of a Cosmopolitan. We discussed that this was a disappointment, and not what a fashion magazine should be featuring, even if it is February.
The next disappointment came when my April edition came in the mail. Now let me add a disclaimer before I say anything. I understand the 90's are back in and I think that most designers have revamped it in a way that looks absolutely me! I now own many floral printed clothing pieces. I also think that Gisele is BEAUTIFUL, like drop-dead gorgeous. BUT the front cover of this Vogue was like 90's the original way. It felt almost.... tacky, if I can even say that about Vogue. I decided that one mistake on a magazine cover wasn't enough for me to be upset, so I flipped through the pages only to realize that Vogue no longer took my breath away. I used to be able to flip through every page and be astounded by the creativity flowing from the magazine. It now feels like they've taken shortcuts.... and this may not be true but it also seems like there are more ad's then ever before.
Now that I've done my complaining I will say that American Experience (photographed by David Sims) in the May issue was enough to make me smile, and like Vogue a little more. Every picture was creative and beautiful in it's own way, as well as unique.
Anyway there's my rant and rave about Vogue 2010. I must say I'm can't wait for my June issue and am praying that it makes me fall in love with Vogue again!
Welp, until next time,
Cadence
